Fourteen years with ZipRealty
Fourteen years I have been with the same brokerage. It is the only brokerage I have ever known. Even with the purchase by Coldwell Banker, I continued to stay while many of my contemporaries left for different pastures. Everything was comfortable for me. That was a problem.
I performed my daily tasks like nothing changed since I first began working for ZipRealty. Well, it did change, though the agents were not aware at the time. I did not change while expecting the same success of the past.
The market place caught up with ZipRealty and surpassed the unique capabilities we once possessed.
Technology and social media have enhanced the brokerages’ ability to catch the attention of the consumer. A broker or agent can tell their story and showcase value with little difficulty by using social media and internet advertising. The cost can be for as much or as little as the agent wants to spend.
Time management has also been affected by the advancements in technology in real estate marketing. A click of the mouse will send a listing to the far reaches of the United States.
What hasn’t changed a whole lot is the cost brokerages charge their seller clients to list their property. Real estate commission percentages are down since I began as a salesperson; however, the actual dollar cost is not. Agents for large brokerages do not have the flexibility to reduce those costs.
I have decided to move to a boutique brokerage, where I’ll have the flexibility to negotiate a fair price for selling properties while offering enhanced service.
Some of you know that I was thinking of going on my own since I possess a broker’s license. I will have the luxury of running my business as my own, yet, still have collaborative voices when needed.
In real estate, working for yourself, by yourself, is not always the healthiest for the client or the broker.
